The popular singer recently opened up about the fear of losing her voice forever after suffering from a vocal cord haemorrhage in late 2017. In an interview with The Guardian, Shakira revealed that singing is a part of her identity and losing her voice was unbearable, causing her to suffer from depression. She also confessed that she had never fought with her husband as much as when she had to stop talking altogether in order to save her voice.

In her own words, she described how her partner felt like a newly released ex-convict who was overwhelmed with the freedom he was suddenly given and unsure of what to do with it. She admitted to being pessimistic and bitter during that time and that Gerard had to endure the worst version of her. Despite doctors recommending surgery, she was skeptical about it and turned to alternative methods such as hypnosis, meditation, and even traveled to Lourdes for holy water to heal herself. Miraculously, her voice eventually returned without the need for surgery, leaving her feeling immensely grateful.
